Mental Health First Aid
Build a Safer, More Supportive Workplace Through Mental Health First Aid
Every year, one in five Australians experience a common mental illness. With employees spending a third of their lives at work, the workplace plays a vital role in recognising mental health issues early and offering support. Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training equips staff with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to recognise signs of mental health issues, respond effectively, and promote a culture of care and wellbeing.
Whether you’re a tertiary institution, corporate office, or government department, Initial Response Training can deliver nationally recognised Mental Health First Aid courses tailored for your team.
What You’ll Learn
Mental Health First Aid adopts a similar approach to physical first aid—but instead of CPR or wound care, it focuses on recognising and responding to mental health challenges and crises.
MHFA training is practical, evidence-based, and designed to support a range of mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, psychosis, substance use problems, and suicidal thoughts.
Participants will learn how to:
- Intervene early by recognising the warning signs of common mental health problems
- Respond during a crisis, including when someone may be at risk of harm
- Offer non-judgemental support and speak confidently about mental health
- Reduce stigma and foster a more compassionate and inclusive workplace
- Build mental health literacy and promote long-term wellbeing
- Understand the MHFA Action Plan and how to apply it in real-life scenarios
Upon successful completion, participants will receive an official Mental Health First Aider certificate issued by Mental Health First Aid Australia, recognised across Australia and internationally.
